Caridad, who was formerly incarcerated, and is a client at Hour Working Women Program, walks in the stairways of her temporary apartment, provided by Hour Children in Long Island City, New York. “I would clean toilets if I had to. The way the economy is today, and then when you have a record, that makes it even worst,” Caridad said. New York has the third largest female prison population in the United States. When applying for jobs, formerly incarcerated women face discrimination, social stigmas and negative stereotypes.
